The Bitter Truth
Some of you may know a lot about corn syrup, some of you have at least heard about it, but before helping you to choose not to eat products that have a high amount of corn syrup or at least trying to think of using it less. I want to share some information that is very important for you, your family and friends! HFCS is cheaper, does not mask flavors, has a lower freezing point, blends well and moisture better with a variety of products, which is useful in making foods and also helps maintain a longer shelf life. As a result it is now used in many foods, from cereals to soft drinks, it is even in yogurts and all types all dipping sauces. There is a large amount of high fructose corn syrup (HFCS) being put in all processed foods and sweetened beverages throughout America. The justification of this topic should be vital to any person whom may be consuming this artificial sweetener. Americans are unaware of how much HFCS they are consuming because of the lack of knowledge of how much products contain this sweetener. In 2009, the average American consumed about 35.7 pounds of high-fructose corn syrup, reports the Illinois Farm Bureau, and that has contributed to a number of health problems.
Some people may say that HFCS is not bad for you because it is derived from the naturally grown crop corn. But in actuality it causes diseases you wouldn’t even want to imagine. HFCS worsens diabetes, which is mainly rooted in insulin problems and causes damage to your immune system. HFCS is a contributor to difficulty of breathing, food allergies, multiple sclerosis (abnormal hardening of body tissues) and other immune system problems are triggered by use of this sweetener. It also speeds up the aging process and there are loads of dangerous mercury poisons found in samples of commercial HFCS. Mercury at any level is considered a neurological toxin that can be harmful to developing fetuses and young children and it also causes memory loss.
The body doesn't digest HFCS the same way it does cane sugar. HFCS prevents the pancreas from releasing insulin. Without insulin, our body wont recognize when you are full, resulting in weight gain. Your body doesn't see HFCS as something that needs to be broken down because it is done in the manufacturing process, which causes the fructose to be stored in your liver as a fat. My friend who grew up in Russia was 12 when her family opened bakery since then she doesn't even remember a day when she hasn't eaten something sweet. Once she moved to the US, after 6 months being here she gained 12 pounds. The reason wasn’t the amount that she ate because she was eating the same portion of foods, after some research; she discovered it was the corn syrup that consists in every product she consumed.
Americans that are in taking such a high amount of HFCS are causing their body to become addicted to this sweater. Resulting in their body constantly being tired because it depends on this sweetener for that little burst of energy that in the end, is stored as a fat. There is nothing nutritional about consuming HFCS it is just empty calories that your body has no need for. Medical and nutrition experts don't support HFCS in one’s diet due to the extensive research on it being a major contributor to metabolic diseases in humans. Corn producers and the government are the only ones gaining profit from their productions of HFCS. Take a stand against them by not supporting any food products that contain this artificial sweetener.
